No bites? I'll add a second picture from a different view and see if that helps.

In a previous life I was an Umbrian sunflower farmer. I want to do a past life regression and stay there.

    Ok, second hint.

In that first picture. The building to the left is not part of the monestary. It is an inn. In fact it is said to be the oldest continually operating inn in the country.

Having spent some time on google, I think it is Slovenia. I've found two matches. One is the upper Carthusian monastery in Stare slemene. The other is Charterhouse Žice.

I'm now confused. Are these the same place as from the pictures they look identical!

Eleanor, it was confusing for us too when we were visiting and trying to figure it out. I think Stare Slemene is a region or "county" where Zice is situated. It is one and the same place, I think.
The word Charterhouse and Monastery seem to be interchangeable here. It is the Carthusian Monastery/Charterhouse at Zice.
Founded around 1160. It was the first Carthusian monastery outside France or Italy. It was famous for it's medicinal gardens and pharmacy.
In a small chapel that is still standing, we found this paper model of what the place supposedly looked like in full operation.

    Your turn!

Pretty sure it's Scandinavian, but that's all I've got.

It is Scandinavia and is one of the stave churches. Can anyone get further than this?

  9. #509
As there are no takers so far, it is Norway and is in Bergan. Can anyone get it now?

A hint: It's in a partially underground multi-level shopping center.

The GUM building contains three above ground levels of shops as I recall.

    But you're close!

Perhaps this topic should be retired for a while!

But for those who are interested, check out this website for some interesting information.
