I thought it might be interesting to see what people end up buying their tickets for here so we have a record for the next years.

Post your dates of travel, airline and the price paid here. It would also be nice, though not completely necessary to put your connections and the total travel time. And the date purchased if it is different than your posting date.

    SO:
    Dates of travel
    Airline
    Price paid

    and... optional:
    Connections
    Total travel time
    Date purchased.

Oh, and if people don't want to put the EXACT dates for whatever reason then rough dates should be OK.

    Thanks in advance.

Another great idea Shannon. Perhaps we should also add "date of purchase" (which might be before a person gets around to posting, esp. this year)?

OK, I finally booked Kansas City-Berlin (I'd say the city pair is also useful information, wouldn't you? ) in May for $1015 all-in, of which $600 was from a voucher I got from a bump last summer, which had to be on United. This connects in Chicago and Frankfurt on the outbound, Brussels and Chicago on the return, with what I'd call comfortable connecting times.

The other day, the route showed $772 on American, which became $872 today, on itineraries where the main routes were operated by Iberia. I had some thought that UA (which I had to use) might match that, but those fares may have been someone not including the fuel surcharge. The UA fares had gotten higher on Kayak, which I've been thinking just taps into the airline sites, but the lower fare was still showing on the UA site. That chance of a disappearing fare, and the forecasts I've seen of fares not getting better got me to go ahead and book.

I reported in another thread about the work-around of first using the voucher for a refundable domestic ticket, then using the funds for a trip including codeshares, which the original voucher didn't allow. I was invited to update that thread; if o.k. with the mods, I'll wait to do that once I can say that I've updated my blog, which should happen in a few days. But anyway, the trick worked.

Dates of travel: September 1 October 16, 2011
Chicago, IL (ORD) to Paris, France (CDG)
    Airline: Iberia, but really American

    9/1: ORD to CDG / non-stop
    Flight time: 8 hours

    10/16: CDG to ORD / non-stop
Flight time: 9 hours and 15 minutes

    Date purchased: December 21, 2010 8:30 AM
Price paid: $735.53 to Iberia and $30 to Vayama so total $765.53

I jumped on a price alert email from Kayak with a $310 price drop finding out later it was because the new code share between American and Iberia forgot to add-on the fuel surcharge. This fare went away in less than 48 hours.

It's amazing to see fares approaching 1000 from the midwest or east coast.

    We bought a one-stop ticket -

    Louisville to Atlanta to Venice
    Rome to Detroit to Louisville

for travel on May 23 - June 2 on Delta airlines. We purchased it on October 26th, 2010 for $880ish dollars. Since then, our international legs have been cancelled & we have been rebooked completely different tickets, one stop, out of Cincinati. Our layovers are not long, but not short, comfortable for connecting.

WTA: The current fare for our trip is $1030, but when I rescheduled it a few days ago (due to the cancelled legs), it was over 2000!

Ottawa to Rome in June, purchased Jan. 14 for $914 on KLM.

KLM bus from Ottawa to Montreal airport; then Montreal to Amsterdam; Amsterdam to Rome. And the return is simply the reverse!

    JUST booked:

    October 6 - Toronto - Rome - Naples
    October 23 - Torino - Rome - Toronto

    $ 1018 per person

    Was $ 1500 2 weeks ago . . .

That is $ 300 cheaper than my last trip to Italy.

    Trip #1

    June 1 - 15, 2011
Phoenix - New York - Amsterdam - Vienna
    Vienna - Amsterdam - Atlanta - Phoenix

Delta (and KLM) $1491.90 per person. The price threw me for a loop, but all comparison shopping was similar.

Booked September 1, 2010 - price is now $200 higher.

    Trip #2

    September 3 - 11, 2011
    Phoenix - Atlanta - Rome
Rome - New York - Phoenix

    Delta - Business Class - $4235.10

Booked December 31, 2010 - price is now almost $1000 cheaper , but involve Alitalia flights for transatlantic portion. While I do not like Alitalia, it is tough to see such a price difference - even if four - six years ago business class was $6000.00.

This isn't a cash purchase, but thought I'd report it anyway. Using frequent flyer miles (for the first time ever) we booked two tickets:

    Dates: May 1-May 17
    Boston (BOS) to Amsterdam (AMS)
    Airline: Delta
Price: 75,000 FF miles each, plus cash for taxes which I think was about $59 each
    Purchased: January 24, 2011

When I went to do the seat selections, I saw that there were a very large number still available on both flights.

Our son and daughter-in-law are living over in the Netherlands for the next several years (have been there since last March), both as postdoctoral researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen. We'll visit with them, do some day trips, and all of us will probably do a long weekend trip somewhere, most likely Bruges (Brugge). On another weekend we may jaunt over to Germany, which is really close to Nijmegen; I'd like to do one a day river cruises on the Rhine (or Mosel). We'll also spend some time on our own in Amsterdam.

    Any other ideas?

    Ann

From (very cold and snowed under) New York (JFK) Feb 2011 to (very warm and sunny) Manila, Philippines (MNL).
    DL 173 JFK-MNL 1245P 1020P + 1 day
    DL 172 MNL-JFK 800A 155P

Paid only $938.90 for Delta direct flight. (New York nonstop to Narita Japan, then to Manila on same flight number - technically considered a direct flight).

Bought for my younger brother since I could not leave. My mother-in-law is having knee replacement surgery so I have to be stay home and take care of the kids.
Can't wait to thaw in the tropics! Will follow him in a few weeks.

Very good price for airfare to Manila. Wanted to go in December. Fare from California to Manila was upwards of $1700.

    Eden,
Not only is the (fare) price good, but my brother decided to go also for Medical (Dental) Tourism. He can have dental surgery (with Harvard Med. trained doctors who went back to Manila) for less than his copay here in Connecticut (with Eastern European trained immigrants).

Good article here. I was told that my cousin (from Texas) had her "lipo" done there and recovered (vacationed) in a 5 star beach resort in Palawan. Her total bill was significantly less than what she would have paid in TX.

I'm leaving as soon as I can. I need to recharge my batteries (need massive amounts of sun and heat please).

Summer vacation for our family of four to France. Purchased on Jan. 11.

    Departs: June 29

    JFK to MAD to NCE
AA connecting to Iberia (3hrs connect)

    Return: July 14

    NCE to LHR to JFK
BA connecting to AA (2.5 hrs. connect)

Purchased on 1800flyeurope.com for average of $1040 per person. A bit higher for adults, a bit cheaper for the kids.
Priced this for months and this was best deal. Good times and good connections. (I wanted the Continental nonstop from EWR to NCE but it priced steadily at $1490).

    Booked on January 18, 2011.

Toronto-Bucharest return via Munich both ways , departure September 11, return: October 9.

The flights were booked with Lufthansa (partner with Air Canada),and they cost CAD630/person, plus taxes of CAD431/person, total cost per person CAD1,061. Points accumulated on our VISA were deducted, so the net cost is a few hundred dollars less.

Air Canada was way more expensive.

KLM (and Alitalia) was cheaper by CAD120/person, but we felt the difference paid to Lufthansa was worth it (for us).

Yesterday Air Canada advertised reduced fares. Even with these Air Canada reduced fares, the tickets we purchased from Lufthansa were marginally cheaper and offered better connections. And we will still get our Aeroplan miles.

Just bought my ticket today! Not a good fare but seats sell out quickly for the Honolulu/Newark direct flights. I needed to make some plans now before they were booked up and did not want to wait and take a chance missing out on the direct flights.

Traveling this summer for 3 weeks:

    Honolulu (HNL) to Newark (EWR)
    7 hour layover
Newark (EWR) to Malpensa (MXP) Milan,Italy

    Malpensa (MXP) to Newark (EWR)
    24 hour layover
    Newark (EWR) to Honolulu (HNL)

    Purchased: Jan 29, 2011
    Airline: Continental

    Price:
    1 adult $1,295.00

I feel I always get a pretty good price on Tuesdays and today I think I got a good deal.
Just bought my tickets for Australia in September-October. Because the Big Q has decided to drop flights from San Francisco we had the choice of flying to Huston then back or leaving from the dreaded LAX.In the end we choose LAX because we got the flight from SFO to there basically free and a parking voucher for SFO which we may or may not use haven't checked the lot price yet.
We are doing a lot of flying during this trip of 25 days
    SFO-LAX-SYD-Cairns
    Cairns-Alice Springs-Perth
    Perth-Adelaide-Melbourne
    Melbourne-LAX-SFO
9 flights $1712 all in which works out to $190 a flight. Simple RT is running with tax around 1000 including tax. I think that's a pretty fair price.

    Guadalajara Mexico June 7th - 13th
$299 RT Volaris San Jose to Guadalajara

Booked through the KLM website. I wanted only one stop on the way to Zagreb, with a short layover, and I wanted 3 days in Paris on the way home and the nonstop Air France back to Seattle. Considering how picky I was about my flights, I'm quite happy with the price. We will fly Dubrovnik to CDG. I haven't booked that yet but it looks like it'll add ~$100.

Seattle to Zagreb, Croatia (one 2.5 hr stop in AMS) on Delta and Croatia Air

CDG to Seattle, nonstop on Air France.

    $1374

Our flights were booked using United miles (55,000 per ticket) on 1/27/11 via telephone after checking Continental website for availability of flights.

SFO to Venice (via Frankfurt) on Lufthanza 4/18
Florence to SFO (via Frankfurt) on Lufthanza Cityline and then United on 5/9

We got afternoon flights direct to Frankfurt in both directions which we wanted. The United website did not offer any of these flights.
Cost $131.90 including $25 for phone fee per ticket (and 55,000 miles of course). She would not waive the $25 phone fee even though open jaw not available on line.
We are very pleased with these tickets.
