It has been nearly 2 months since a post on the forum. Time for a little action. I shall start a guessing game where I am post a photo hunt image and hope others join in. Here is the first entry.

I have never been to Croatia,,,yet, but I would have to guess Croatia.
I could Google search and find it, but that would be cheating.
Somebody is going to have to throw me line here.

I'm following this although I haven't posted as I haven't recognised anything so it may not be as sleepy as you think here! So far, I could only have told you the answers by cheating. I am waiting for one I can guess or know...

I feel bad using google. I take solace that Croatia was correct.
How about Onuphrius' Fountain, Dubrovnik, Croatia

Let me know if I am correct - I have a good for my next upload.

    We have a winner.

If I may propose Tom's Rules here.

    1. Photo submitted must be taken by poster or someone in their party.

    2. The "contest" is to identify the photo location. If you have not been there you are at a disadvantage. Thus I would think any method used to identify said photo location is okay.

    IMHO

That's the trouble. It is too easy to cheat! I have never been to Malta so I had to look this up. It is Saint Agatha's Tower, or the Red Tower, in Mellieħa. Off to look for something for you....

This place reminds me of an English children's TV programme which took place in Toytown...

    Felicity,

You are correct that the Red Tower is in Malta. If you have not been, I would added to your list, but would go off season when it is not so crowded.

Your picture is a little more difficult because it appears there are no major landmarks to reference.
Assuming you stayed in the countries of the "Rest of Europe" forum, I would have to go with Oberammergau, Germany.
It just looks like a street I walked down.

Oh now I don't know what to do! To tell or have you guessing? So not telling but giving clues. Not the Black Forest but still in Bavaria. It is walled and medieval.

My first thought was somewhere like Mittenwald, but that's not walled.

Well TominVB you are we have until 1 March so let us keep going.

So I did google walled cities in Bavaria.

So the list is not that long. I know in my mind I have seen this street in picture.
So of the towns on my list... the towns visited
I have to ask Felicity... Did you take us back to Nuremburg?

Not Nuremburg. Would you like another clue? I think this has been in and out of Bavaria (as they do, over 400 years...) but it is currently in it and it is on the Romantikstrasse.

Well your clue certainly narrowed it down but I still had to flail around awhile between Nordlingen and Dinkelsbuhl on the Romantisch Strasse .
So I dug out some old snaps to see if that would help (along with Google I have to confess).

Not exactly the same spot as yours but close enough. It was the window openings on the roof of the Munster St. Georg that gave it away.

    We are in Dinkelsbuhl.

Lederer is a wonderful Pils made in Germany. Nuremburg to be exact.

It appears that market square is in the background, so I am going to have to guess...

You are correct. To be exact, it is lunchtime at the Bratwursthausle bei St Sebald. It is one of a number of fine establishments selling the most wonderful of German Wursts - Bartwurst Nurnberger Art.

Tiny little things just packed with flavor - in the photo you see where we ordered 6 each. You can order as many as you think you can eat. Here they also vacuum pack them to go and during our RV'ing days we always picked up a few packages of a dozen. For Fest and Christmas Market goers you can order this from the many tent vendors

I wish I knew what was happening this weekend! Some Feast day? Looks like a Catholic shrine or church, but where..... Because of a google on the dates, I am guessing Zagreb?

When this is shut down we can play this over at Pauline's sloweurope site I am pretty sure.

Presumably a winner in past years is what you are referring to as this year's Oscars haven't happened yet, have they? I am not too 'up' on films so it doesn't really help me. I will take a stab at Austria as a country.

Austria is correct and the picture captures the scene of a dramatic conclusion approximately 50 years ago.

And I am pretty sure you have seen it.

    The movie is a classic!

For complete transparency I should add that the location was created brick by brick in Hollywood - the pic is the original location

Austria and movie classic - The Third Man, Vienna, jumped into my head and then I thought that doesn't fit with the church bit so I think it must be The Sound of Music and the convent in there? I had to look up the location of the Abbey - Nonnburg Gasse in Salzburg - a city I have visited probably 10 times but never done the Sound of Music tour thing. Am I right?

Salzburg is correct. It is not at the abbey, but the cemetery at St Peters. This is where the Von Trapp family, in the movie Sound of Music, hid during their escape. They pretty much recreated a large portion on the cemetery in on a movie set in California.

The clock is ticking you are up Felicity.

Just pure guess - somewhere in Poland?

Coming back to this and looking at the houses to the side, they look as if they might be in Belgium but I am not quite sure if Belgium is included in this forum. So two guesses now! Or they could be Dutch houses. At any rate, somewhere I have never been so I am never going to get it!

That was so nice of google to take you on a virtual visit to this lovely town in the Netherlands.
You are correct the picture is the Delft Town Hall. Saw multiple wedding parties going in and out!
    Even brought home a plate

I was getting ready to type Edam, Netherlands then I said no. My bet it is the Venice of the North.
    I am thinking Bruges Belgium?
