    Livorno to Florence

One of our cruise ports is Livorno. We would like to go into Florence for the day and have been told that it is an hour away from the port. The best alternative I've seen is to see if other cruise passengers want to go and would share the cost of a mini-van. Curious to know if anyone has made the Livorno-Florence day trip for a reasonable price and time.

Hi Caplanco - just a note to let you know Internet Brands was scheduled to close down our website as of March 1st. To no one's surprise, they haven't yet done so, but these pages could disappear at any time, and many of our members have stopped checking our forums. Per this announcement posted earlier this month, we are recommending that our members join Slow Europe, a site run by original Queen of Slow Travel, Pauline Kenny. It is our understanding that when our pages are taken down, they will be replaced by a link to the Fodors pages, where you might miss the respectful, intelligent information shared by our members here.

There is at least one train per hour from Livorno to Florence, costing eur 9.60 per person per trip and taking on average 1 hour 20 minutes. Add a couple of taxi rides in Livorno - in Florence the station is within walking distance from most sights. In most cases train is more reliable than the motorway as there are frequent queues in the Empoli-Florence area.
