Join us in Savannah, Georgia for the weekend of April 4, 5 and 6 2008! If you have not booked already, now is the time to register for our Great Slow Travel Gathering!

We had some great regional Get Togethers (GTGs) this year - North Carolina, Italy, France, England, California, and more - but the Great Slow Travel Gathering brings us together from many regions and in a larger group.

Register Online (adults $175; young adults ages 13-21 $150; children 12 and under $75). 90 Slow Travelers have registered, but we have room for more!

Our "official events" and "extra events" are listed below. Official events (included in the registration fee and marked with a darker background below) are Friday dinner, Saturday dinner and Sunday brunch.

Thursday, April 3

For those of you starting the weekend early!

Informal evening cocktail drop-by at "Our Place" (5:30 - 7:00pm). The Gathering Steering Committee cordially invites any early arrivers to drop by our house for casual cocktails. Contact person: Terry (teaberry). Read more.

Dinner at the Mansion on Forsyth (8:00pm). Artful cuisine at a luxurious Savannah restaurant. Contact person: June (chiaro di luna). Read more.

Friday, April 4

The official Gathering events start with Friday night dinner.

Mansion on Forsyth Park Cooking Class (10:00am to 1:00pm). In the luxuriously restored Mansion on Forsyth Park, their chef will host a 3 hour cooking class featuring low country cuisine. Contact person: Leslie Erickson. Read more.

Casual Lunch or High Tea with Savannah historian (either lunch or high tea). Enjoy a casual and informative meeting over tea at The Savannah Tea Room with one of Savannah's own, and a local expert at that. Contact person: Brenda (BGE), Time to be determined. Read more.

Architectural Walking Tour (3:00pm). Enjoy and learn about the unique American architecture that is Savannah, with a private tour guide. Contact person: Kathy (kaydee). Read more.

Friday Evening Gathering (6:00 – 10:00pm). The weekend officially begins with a kickoff party at the Gingerbread House. Our heavy hors d'oeurves buffet, catered by noted chef Cynthia Creighton-Jones, will include several Savannah specialities. An open bar will be available most of the night.

Saturday, April 5

Saturday's official Gathering event is in the evening.

Slow Golfers in Savannah (around 8:30am). Brent Weaver, Leslie Erickson's husband, is organizing a golf outing for all levels of golfers. Contact person: Leslie Erickson. Read more.

Lunch at Paula Deen's Restaurant (12:30pm). Of restaurant and television fame, Paula Deen is based in Savannah, and a lunch to be remembered is being organized. Contact person: MarciaB. Read more.

Tybee Island and the Crab Shack (afternoon). An afternoon jaunt about 20 minutes from downtown Savannah, to explore the island and enjoy lunch at the Crab Shack. Contact persons: Jan (jgk) or Terry (teaberry), Time to be determined. Read more.

Saturday Evening Gathering (6:00 – 10:00pm). We'll have Fun at the Fort this evening at Old Fort Jackson, located on a lovely spot on the banks of the Savannah River about three miles from the Historic District. This evening will hold some special surprises, including music, entertainment and a drawing for door prizes. Dinner at the Fort features a Low Country Boil and other local specialities, with beer and wine included.

Haunted Savannah After-hours Trolley Tour (10:00pm). Spend an eerie evening of chills and thrills, visiting some of Savannah's famous cemeteries and other ghostly haunts. Contact person: Brenda (BGE), leaving from the Fort immediately after Saturday night's venue, and returning to the Historic District after the Tour. Read more.

Sunday April 6

Our last official Gathering event is Sunday Brunch.

Sunday Brunch Gathering (10:30am – 12:30pm). We'll come together one last time for Sunday brunch at Vic's on the River. In addition to typical breakfast items, our brunch will include some Savannah specialties. Our group will have the entire 5th floor, a perfect spot to end our weekend together.
