New Year Resolution - Let's Slim Down our Signatures!!

Over the years some of our signatures have become fat! Links to several websites, links to blogs, phone numbers, email addresses - too much information taking up room on a thread we want to read through quickly. We used to have one set of rules for commercial posters and one set for everyone else. But now we have slimmed down our rules so that you can easily slim down your signatures.

Rules for Message Board Signatures:

- Your signature may start with your name and/or a favorite quote. These cannot be links.

- You can link to ONE website. The link must be either the URL (e.g. www.slowtrav.com) or the name of the site (e.g. Slow Travel). No taglines or descriptions of the site.

- You can link to YOUR blog. The link must be either the URL or the blog name, preceeded by "Blog:" (so we know it is a blog).

- You can link to any of your travel notes or trip reports on slowtrav.com or your photo essays on slowphotos.com.

- If you have a Slow Travel Classified Listing, you can link to the classified using your company name and/or your classified caption, or with the text "Slow Travel Classified" or "We Support Slow Travel".

And for those of you whose signatures are whisper thin, fatten them up! Link to your Slow Travel trip reports or travel notes! This helps members in the community get to know you better.

Slow Travel Talk is a community message board. We are here to talk about travel not to read commerical postings. We welcome people from travel businesses to become part of our community, but you have to join us as travelers and not to promote your business. The majority of our community members know this and act accordingly. We had to create these new rules because lately we are getting more "commercial" postings. If your signature needs to be slimmed down, we will change it for you or ask you to change it.

New Year Resolution - Let's Fatten Up our Profiles!!

We want to know more about you! Update your profile with a recent photo and a detailed bio. Add your location (location is displayed when you post). Add the link to your website or blog. Click on a member's name to see their profile.

In your message board profile there is an option to "receive emails from Administrators". Check this box if you would like to receive our emails.

Click GO > PERSONAL ZONE > PREFERENCES and you will see this option under "Profile & Appearance". Click the box and scroll down to click the SUBMIT button.

Gold Star Forums

In November we started the "Gold Star Forums", special non-travel forums for premium members ("Everything Else", "Food/Drinks/Recipes", "Blogging Talk", "House Trades"). This gives the "regulars" a place to talk with a little more privacy (as much as is possible on the Internet). These forums cannot be read by lurkers or non-premium members and they are not indexed by the search engines.
